Extension 100 Years

Welcome to Extension’s 100-year Anniversary

The 100-year anniversary of the signing of the Smith-Lever Act of 1914 which officially created the national Cooperative Extension System will take place in 2014. This celebration will highlight Extension’s past and focus on the contemporary application of Extension’s transformational educational programming into the future.

The Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP) has established a centennial committee to coordinate and support activities nationwide.

The committee is reaching out to internal and external audiences to encourage participation in this once-in-a-lifetime celebration. This website serves as the portal or gateway for resources on the history of the Smith-Lever Act and the development of Cooperative Extension Programs, events, news and a toolkit.

The toolkit includes templates and messaging designed for state and county Extension groups to tailor for their needs to promote and celebrate the centennial.

The centennial celebration will include a convocation event in Washington, D.C. on May 7-8, 2014. More information is listed under the celebration link.
